Hello again.
So, Tuesdays are apparently a little slow for me. It seems that the beginning of the week is a bit slower than the end, but that's to be expected I guess. This morning Raph, the Brazilian Missionary, picked me up at 10. We went down to this smaller village to meet Sharon. Sharon is in charge of a Toddlers group that meets every Wednesday morning. I'll be helping them, so I went down to help them set up and have Tea with Sharon and Raph. It's was a wonderful time. Sharon is lovely and I am so incredibly excited to help out with the Toddler group. I love the little ones, so it'll be a good time to play with the babies and build relationships with their mothers. After helping them set up the toys, Sharon, Raph, and I went for tea. A deacon, who I think is named Gary, joined us. He was very kind, very funny. The four of us just chatted until Sharon and Gary had to go. Then Raph and I sat about planning for a small time before he dropped me back off at Claire's.
I spent the early afternoon planning out the next two months. I made these pretty Wales-colored calendars. June is pretty busy so far, but I'm looking forward to all that we have planned! It'll be a great summer, I think.
At 1 I went over to Jane's house, a member of the church who hosts a bible study at her house. She's just two doors up! We had lunch and went through a chapter of the book they're reading called "God on Mute." From what they say it's pretty good, so we talked through the chapter called "Holy Saturday" which is the day before Good Friday and Easter. It was a tumultuous time for the disciples especially how they are described as hiding in the upper room of a house, waiting for persecution. It must have been a long day despite how little we know of it. The analogy is made that sometimes we feel as if we're on Holy Saturday, that God is ignoring our pleas for help. It was a wonderful time, and a great time of talking through our lives. The women kept focusing on how while we might feel like we don't have time or that life is too hard, it's so important to stay silent before the Lord and focus on our knowledge of him never forsaking us.
It reminded me of Psalm 46. It begins with a declaration of who God is: "The Lord is my refuge and my strength, an ever present help in trouble." Because of this "We will not fear though the mountains give way and fall into the heart of the sea, though the mountains quake with their surging." Then later in the passage, God calls us to "Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in all the earth." No matter what trials we face in life, there is comfort in God. He will be exalted and glorified. He will work all things for his glory and, therefore, for our good: "God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his services." We are not called to worry and fret, but to be still and know that God fulfills his promises.
It was a very encouraging time. And I got to play with Kate's 5 month old, Jimyma (sp?). She is simply so precious. I put her to sleep, got to feed her, and made her laugh. So beautiful. I also got to meet Raph's wife and son. It was a lovely time.
And now, I'm off for the day. I did some more planning and I finished up my calendars. Aren't they pretty?
Tonight I'm going swimming with my host family in my Bathers (strange word for Bathing Suit, I know). We're also eating fish and chips tonight. It'll be so good! I hope you are all having a wonderful day!
Pray for me that I will use my spare time wisely. Until the summer starts going, there won't be too much to do early in the week (Mon-Wed). Then, when it starts up, I won't have much time at all. So please pray that I will not only rest well but work well and remember to focus my heart and mind on the One who truly matters! I do not want to get distracted by my work that I forget to be still before my Savior. Thank you for your prayers. I am so excited to be here.
